DNAK's Projects

The Norwegian Atlantic Committee (DNAK) is a politically independent organization. Our goal is to contribute to increased knowledge and fruitful debate about Norwegian foreign-, defence, - and security policy, while focusing on transatlantic relations. Our events seek to address recent international events and the geopolitical changes shaping Norwegian policy. We are proud to host a great variety of events such as seminars, roundtable discussions, regional courses in international politics, study trips and our Transatlantic Forum. Our flagship conference Leangkollen Security Conference will in 2022 be hosted for the 57th time.

Seminars

The Norwegian Atlantic Committee is proud to invite members and non-members to regular seminars, with prominent speakers and panelists. Our objective is to provide a non-political, multidisciplinary platform where various actors may engage in open discussions on current affairs. Among our speakers are leading researchers, current and former ministers, politicians, military professionals, media, and various organizations. Seminars are primarily hosted at our premises at Fridtjof Nansens plass 8 in the center of Oslo.

Regional courses in international politics

Despite being an Oslo based organization, DNAK also seeks to reach a wider audience with our regional course in International Politics. Every year we visit Tromsø, Bodø, Trondheim, Bergen, Stavanger and Kristiansand with an outstanding group of lecturers. The aim is to offer time-relevant lecturers on current affairs by highly qualified experts on foreign-, defence and security policy. Our target audience for this lecture series is high-school teachers, students and staff at universities and colleges, regional level politicians, civil service members and military personnel.

Leangkollen Security Conference

Leangkollen Security Conference is the Norwegian Atlantic Committee’s flagship conference and is a two-day event that takes place in the beginning of February every year. In 2022 we will organize it for the 57th time. The conference is leading within foreign, security and defence related matters in Norway and attracts a wide range of renowned national and international speakers and guests. In 2022 the conference will be held at the historic Oslo University Aula in the city center of Oslo, decorated with monumental paintings by the famous Norwegian painter Edvard Munch.

Study trips

Every year the Norwegian Atlantic Committee is happy to welcome guests on various study trips, both in Norway and abroad. We have a long tradition of a yearly Svalbard trip in collaboration with the Norwegian Coast Guard and partner organization Folk & Forsvar. The study trip includes a visit to Longyearbyen, and a voyage at sea with the Norwegian Coast Guard. Additionally, we have been fortunate to travel to Brussels every year to visit the NATO Headquarters and the Norwegian delegation to the European Union.

We are also pleased to partner with the Norwegian Army to visit the one of the Army’s yearly winter exercises. In 2018 we were fortunate to visited NATO-exercise Trident Juncture, and in 2020 we visited Cold Response.

Transatlantic Forum

Transatlantic Forum is the latest addition to our portfolio of events and is a collaboration between DNAK and YATA Norway. Here our main objective is to engage young professionals, students, and cadets in issues related to foreign-, defence, and security policy, with emphasis on transatlantic relations. Transatlantic Forum participants meet over three sessions.
